Collections vs. charge-offs: what's the difference?
A charge-off means a creditor wrote off your debt as unlikely to be paid — it can still be sold to a collector afterward. A collection is a separate account created when that debt gets transferred or sold. It's common to see both listed for the same debt, and each one is a separate item on your file. We review both when we audit your report.
Why "just pay it off" isn't always the fix
Paying a collection doesn't erase it from your report — it just marks it "paid," and it can still drag your score down for years. What actually helps depends on the specifics of your file, which is exactly what a real audit is for. Call us for a free evaluation before paying anything.
Why your credit card balances matter more than you'd think
How much of your available credit you're using is one of the bigger factors in your score — and unlike disputes, it's something you influence directly. We walk clients through exactly where their numbers should sit as part of our credit strategy guidance.
